I love a success story. I love championing entrepreneurs with vision, grit and big ideas which is probably part of the reason I’ve totally fallen for the magic of Lost Shore Surf Resort in Ratho, just outside of Edinburgh.
Founded by Scottish entrepreneur (and keen surfer!) Andy Hadden, this place has been over 10 years in the making. Through sheer determination, hard work, and probably a few tears along the way, Andy has brought this incredible destination to life - and what a destination it is. Lost Shore is now home to Europe’s largest wave pool, and it is epic.
But it’s not just about the waves, although they are amazing, powered by state-of-the-art technology. This is a full-blown Scottish staycation dream, set in a gorgeous 60-acre country park. Whether you’re surfing, relaxing, reconnecting or exploring, there’s something here for everyone.
There’s waterside accommodation, hilltop lodges, fab restaurants, a wellness studio and even co-working space. And don’t miss the surf school, with lessons and sessions for both kids and adults. Plus, there’s a real commitment to championing independent businesses, from the shops and eateries such as Civerinos on-site to the locally-sourced Laura Thomas Co toiletries in the rooms. I love that touch!
I’ve already been three times, and every visit has brought something new. On my last midweek getaway with the girls, I had a massage with the lovely Emma which was amazing. There’s such a relaxed, welcoming vibe here. You really do feel like you’re part of something special.
Now let’s talk accommodation. The Waterfront Pods are sleek and minimalistic, with all the tech you need. So, perfect for solo trips or couples. I’ve also stayed in both the 2 and 3 bedroom lodges, and they’re just gorgeous. Super comfy beds, loads of space, and a peaceful vibe that makes it ideal for families. My favourite? The 3-bedroom luxury hilltop lodge with a balcony. I could’ve sat on that deck for hours just soaking in the views.
If you fancy a night away, I’d definitely recommend booking a stay and trying a surf lesson while you’re at it. I think I’ve caught the bug! I stood up on the board once (yes, just once), but hey it’s all about the fun! Making memories with friends and loved ones, that’s what life is all about.
