Looking for a great family day out near Edinburgh? Don’t miss The Royal Highland Show 2024, back in town from 20th-23rd June. Showcasing the best of food, farming and rural life, there’ll be acres of fun for everyone at Ingliston. Think show jumping, parades, music, animals, tractors and more. But that's not all - children 15 and under go free, when accompanied by a paying adult!
ACTIVITIES YOU DON'T WANT TO MISS
Explore the Nature Trail, check out the interactive kids’ zone and see all creatures great and small. You’ll find everything from fuzzy Blacknose Valais sheep to towering Clydesdale horses and magnificent Highland cattle at The Royal Highland Show.
Machinery-mad kids (and adults) can get up close to huge tractors and telehandlers, there’s quad bikes and combine harvesters too. Plus, spectacular demos, a chance to watch birds of prey soar through the skies and see extreme mountain bikers.
SHOP TILL YOU DROP
For avid shoppers, The Royal Highland Show boasts a line-up of cool suppliers that will impress both kids and parents. In fact, it attracts over 1,000 exhibitors each year so expect lots of shopping villages offering clothing, shoes, crafts, gifts, pet supplies, art and toys.
Highlights include handcrafted country boots from Fairfax & Favor (pictured above), luxury Swiss watches from family owned The Edinburgh Watch Company and British lifestyle clothing brand Beaumont & Bear. For interiors, there’s specialist stove supplier Auldton Stoves, ANTA homeware and beautifully scented Eriskay Candles.
FEAST LIKE A KING
You’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to eating. From artisan pizzas to succulent Aberdeen Angus burgers, the Showground will be packed with top food vendors. You can also see chefs cooking up a feast at Food For Thought, meet the makers and taste Scottish produce at Scotland’s Larder, a must-see treasure trove for all foodies.
GRAB YOUR DANCING SHOES
Expect everything from folk rock and swing to reggae and opera on the West Stage. There are also daily ceilidh sessions for anyone looking to get their dancing shoes on. Night owls should check out the Royal Highland Hoolie, presented by Farmers Bash. There’s a great line-up full of Scottish folk and Irish country music on the evenings of Friday 21st and Saturday 22nd June, from 5.30pm. There’s an exclusive appearance from Tik Tok Star Nathan Evans (Wellerman, Sea Shanty) on the Friday and Cotton Eye Joe chart toppers, Rednex, on the Saturday!
TELL YOUR STORY
The Royal Highland Show is the biggest fundraising event for its founding charity RHASS (The Royal Highland & Agricultural Society of Scotland). In 2024, it celebrates its 240th anniversary. To mark the occasion, they’re calling on people who are connected to the countryside across Scotland to share their stories.
240 years of Stories celebrates the people, the history and the memories of the people who live and work in rural Scotland by collecting and sharing their experiences through audio, visual and written storytelling.
Whether it's reminiscing about visiting the Royal Highland Show as a child, buying produce from your local family farm shop, strawberry picking with your children or hillwalking with your parents, they want to hear your stories! READ MORE
