I don't see my sister Penny often enough, or without kids, so when I received the lovely invite from Cromlix asking if I'd like to come stay and check out their refurb, I jumped at the chance like a mouse on cheese.
Nestled in the beautiful Perthshire countryside just a few miles from Dunblane, Cromlix is a gorgeous country house hotel with acres of surrounding woodlands and landscaped gardens. Penny had been to Cromlix but I hadn't, and I wasn't sure what to expect. But my goodness if I had had expectations, they were well and truly blown out the water. This place is incredible.
Owned by Kim and Andy Murray, the luxury hotel had a complete makeover at the start of the year. Each of its 15 bedrooms and bathrooms have been meticulously upgraded, as well as the public areas of the hotel. There’s a swish new restaurant (The Glasshouse) and bar, plus several sumptuous private dining and meeting rooms too. You couldn’t want for more. There’s even a private chapel for small weddings.
After welcome drinks on the lawn, we checked out our stunning room. Our jaws literally dropped when we walked in. A perfect blend of furnishings, antiques and luxe fabrics, it boasted a huge bay window with breath-taking views overlooking the garden. There was an enormous bathroom with roll top bath, fluffy robes and lovely MODM toiletries too – if you’re not familiar with these products, make sure you check out The Method on St Stephen Street soon. And did I mention its living room? The hotel room was bigger than my house!
In the name of research, and frankly because a girlie getaway wouldn’t be complete without pre-dinner cocktails, we donned our finest and headed to the bar soon after. I can confirm they do GREAT cocktails. Dinner was just as exquisite. Award-winning executive head chef Darin Campbell has created a fantastic, balanced menu using seasonal produce from locally sourced suppliers, as well as ingredients and garnishes from the hotel’s onsite Kitchen Garden. Highlights included the West Coast Scottish Halibut and Home Smoked Simpson’s Roe Deer with Spiced Sand Carrot, Peanut, Cocoa Nib, Ginger Crumb. Delicious!
The next morning, we woke feeling fresh and fabulous after a great night’s sleep. We even managed a game of tennis after breakfast - I haven't played for about 30 years so I was delighted to thrash Penny. That’s true sisterly love, don’t you think?!
Cromlix is an ideal destination to truly kick back and relax. Great for a girlie catch up or romantic weekend, the setting is glorious, the staff super helpful (especially front of house) and there’s an array of activities on site to keep everyone entertained, from outdoor garden games to archery, and falconry. A huge #eggrecommends from me, I am excited and delighted that Cromlix have joined as an egg partner, get that mini break booked *now.
