We held our latest edition of egg academy at the Balmoral Hotel Edinburgh, focusing on business finance, social media and visualisation.
The morning started with some networking, introductions and a tasty breakfast of pastries, tea and coffee before moving on to a quiz! The team from FreeAgent started their session with a finance quiz, that included questions such as “For tax reasons, is a Jaffa cake a biscuit or a cake?” with the winner receiving a picnic backpack.
Following the quiz, Megan Vevers, Senior Support Accountant within the FreeAgent team, ran a session on cash flow for your business. This session gave advice on how to manage your cash flow effectively with tips such as preparing a cash flow projection and offering incentives to encourage early repayments of invoices. Having a cash flow buffer was a part of the session that stirred up many questions and struck a chord with many attendees as something they do not yet have for their business.
Following this, Sophie Jones from Sophie Jones Social joined us to deliver a social media masterclass, covering all things social media, including how to decide the best platform for your demographic and using content pillars in your social media strategy. During the session we were encouraged to think “if your business was a celebrity, which celebrity would it be” - we heard everything from Beyoncé to One Direction! We then looked at how we could best use this to create our content.
After working our brains it was time for a delicious Balmoral lunch of sandwiches, hummus, breadsticks and fruit platters. Feeling refuelled it was then time for the afternoon visualisation session.
Katie Adams from Katie Adams Coaching covered why everyone should have a vision board before guiding us through how to create our boards. This session created an environment where all attendees could share stories, personal struggles and what they would like to make more time for. After this session, some attendees left with a full board and a clear vision, others left with a working document that they could add to throughout the months or years. As the attendees left many discussed where they would hang their board to look at it and reference it over time.
