The Women on Top Summit in September was unforgettable — a day full of energy, inspiration, and connection where 300 women, and a few babies, came together - shared their stories, left feeling empowered and inspired. Felt part of something.
In this new series we’re sharing stories of women who attended the Summit, how that day impacted them personally and professionally, and how their lives have changed since.
First up, we spoke to Megan Hughes, founder of Thundr Digital
What you did before starting Thundr Megan?
I actually started out in law, where I developed a knack for problem-solving and helping people navigate complex issues. That background might seem a bit unexpected for digital marketing, but it’s been surprisingly useful! I eventually found my way into the digital space, and I haven’t looked back since.
And tell us more about Thundr!
Now, I’m the founder of Thundr Digital, where I get to combine that problem-solving knack with a real passion for business growth. We work across SEO, email marketing, PPC, social media management, and in-depth digital audits to help our clients not just follow trends but make real connections with their audiences. I’m constantly learning and love diving into new marketing trends and strategies. If there’s a challenge to tackle or a new approach to try, I’m all in! Helping businesses shine online and turn goals into reality is what drives me every day.
What was your experience of egg before the Summit?
I joined as an egg partner three months before the Summit, my business was listed in the egg directory, I attended a couple of the monthly Women on Top events, and promoted myself in the Facebook group.
I couldn’t believe the impact on my business in just two months, so when I saw the Summit advertised, I bought a ticket immediately.
What were your reasons for attending the Summit?
One of my business goals is to start getting Thundr Digital's name out there more and establish it as a trusted name in the industry. I knew that to achieve this, I needed to step out of my comfort zone and start attending more networking events where I could meet like-minded women and potential collaborators. The Summit felt like the perfect starting point, not only to connect with other business owners but also to gain insights from speakers who have successfully built their own communities. I saw it as a chance to grow both personally and professionally while creating opportunities for the business to grow.
We built a bespoke platform allowing attendees to connect ahead of the event, how did you find it?
Amazing! I used it to its full potential, set up my profile and started chatting to other attendees, I found it easy to navigate and just so good seeing who was going to be there.
By the time the Summit came round, I had already met someone for coffee - we’re both in the digital marketing space so had lots to talk about. And while we’ve shared ideas and want to support each other’s journeys, it’s more than just a professional connection; this girl Leona is now my friend - we came to Women on Top November together - what a way to end the year!
Stand out moment from the Summit?
One of the most impactful moments for me was listening to Grace Andrews’ talk on the importance of building a community, it really resonated with me.
It’s all about creating something that lasts, even when it doesn’t feel like it’s paying off immediately, a reminder that building the right community and audience is a long-term effort, but one that is absolutely worth it.
Absolutely!
Megan’s top tips for others who are looking to network and grow their community this year:
- Go all in - Make the effort to attend events, engage in discussions, and take advantage of every opportunity egg offers. The more you put into the community, the more you’ll get out of it. The more you put into the community, the more you’ll get out of it.
- Push yourself out of your comfort zone - Networking can be daunting, but egg is full of like-minded people who are there to support and learn from each other. Step out, introduce yourself, and share your ideas and goals.
- Make meaningful connections - Go beyond just exchanging business cards. Take the time to get to know people and form genuine connections. These relationships can turn into valuable partnerships, friendships, and even clients.
- Embrace the community - egg is an amazing space to grow both personally and professionally, so dive in and let the community be your support network!
Megan’s experience at the Women on Top Summit shows just how important the power of connection, the importance of community, and the incredible impact that stepping out of one’s comfort zone can have. Her story is just one example of how the Summit continues to inspire, support, and empower women to thrive in all areas of their lives. We can’t wait to see what’s next for Megan and the amazing women she’s meeting along the way.
